Malaysia has one of the most unique monarchy systems in the world. Instead of having only one royal family ruling permanently, Malaysia has nine royal rulers who take turns becoming the national king.

This rotating monarchy system makes Malaysia different from most countries that have a traditional monarchy.

The Nine Royal States

• Johor
• Kedah
• Kelantan
• Negeri Sembilan
• Pahang
• Perak
• Perlis
• Selangor
• Terengganu

Every five years, the rulers choose one among them to become the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the King of Malaysia.
